Cinecon 53: Classic Film Festival in Hollywood

The 53rd annual Cinecon classic film festival and memorabilia show is co-Sponsored by Warner Archive and runs 8/31 - 9/4 in Hollywood over Labor Day weekend. For more than half a century Cinephiles have gathered to celebrate the movies at the annual Cinecon Classic Film Festival. This event is where archivists, authors, collectors and film fans come together for five days of classic film screenings, special programs, celebrity guests, and the best movie memorabilia show in the nation. Dedicated to showcasing unusual films that are rarely given public screenings, Cinecon begins bright and early Saturday morning with The Daffy Doc (1938), a prime cut from the upcoming Porky Pig 101 5 disc DVD set!

What makes this festival so unique and a real stand out from other events of its kind is that Cinecon is dedicated to showcasing unusual films that are rarely given public screenings. Often the films presented here aren't available on DVD, let alone accessible via cable or streaming venues. It's the dedicated efforts of the programmers, staff and volunteers that make this celebration of cinema happen, locating rare prints of films once thought lost. And the love for the medium really shines with ever single presentation. The five day marathon truly is a celebration of a culturaly significant art form.

Everything you need to know about Cinecon 53 is available on the official website, including news about films to be screened, hotel and dealer information, and registration details. In a nutshell, Loews Hollywood is the host hotel with all screenings taking place at the historic Egyptian Theater just down the street on Hollywood Blvd. Loews, of corse, will be offering special discount rates to Cinecon attendees, just as will many of the local restaurants and vendors. All you have to do is present your pass and you'll be treated like a Hollywood VIP.

Cinecon is the oldest and the grandest of the movie related fan festivals, and once again Cinecon 53 promises to offer an outstanding five day program of unusual films, exciting celebrity guests and one of the best movie memorabilia marts in the nation. Special guests are expected and will be announced as they become confirmed. The dealers' rooms will hold a variety of offerings where collectors will find one of the best movie memorabilia marts in the country. And this year's host hotel will again be the Loews Hollywood Hotel located at 1755 North Highland Avenue next to the Hollywood and Highland entertainment complex. As in recent years all film screenings will be held in the Lloyd E. Rigler Theatre at the restored Grauman's Egyptian on Hollywood Boulevard. For those returning the theater will be a familiar friend, and for new comers the movie house promises to be a stimulating venue in which to view films in style, just like the old days.

Tickets for the show can be pre-ordered by using the form on the registration page or online through the Brown Paper Ticket website. Full festival passes are just $175 until August 15 and then will increase to $200 per person. The full passes include all 5 days of films, special shows at the hotel, book signings and the memorabilia show. If you can't attend the whole show day passes are available. Distribution of pre-registration packets will begin at noon on Thursday at the hotel with walk up registration starting soon after.
