"Galaxy Quest" Documentary Invades Theaters November 26 Only

In a one-day-only special event, Fandom Presents an in-depth look at the enduring film that foresaw an era when geeks would rule the world. Never Surrender: A Galaxy Quest Documentary touches down at nearly 600 theaters nationwide for one night only on Tuesday, November 26. This very entertaining look at a cult film phenomenon provides an exploration into how Galaxy Quest (arguably the most meta science-fiction comedy in film history) became a cult classic over the years since it opened at the box office twenty years ago this Christmas. The original film, as well as this documentary, help bring attention to the sci-fi and fantasy obsession that now dominates the entertainment industry. Fans of sci-fi and pop culture can search for their participating theaters and purchase tickets now at FathomEvents.com.

The documentary features endearing insight from the Galaxy Quest well-rounded and star-studded cast, which includes Tim Allen (Last Man Standing) as the intrepid and colossally egotistical leader, Sigourney Weaver (Alien) as the overly sexy female member of the crew, the ridiculously talented Alan Rickman (every Harry Potter film), funny sidekick-turned-Oscar winner Sam Rockwell (JoJo Rabbit), the perpetually adorable Justin Long (Live Free or Die Hard), Tony Shalhoub (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel) as an 1980s ethnically ambiguous character, and Rainn Wilson (The Office) in a small, yet memorable role.

The film also includes commentary from the film's director Dean Parisot (Bill & Ted Face the Music) as well as Star Trek fan-favorites Wil Wheaton (Star Trek: The Next Generation) and Brent Spiner (Star Trek: The Next Generation), and a legion of celebrity fans sharing their reminiscences and appreciation for this beloved film. Additionally, there are more than a dozen other notable filmmakers, craftspeople and entertainment-industry observers who offer keen insight into the ways, both big and small, that Galaxy Quest has had lasting impact and developed a fan base that extends around the world. And of course there are exclusive deleted scenes and the premiere of the "Honest Trailer" for Galaxy Quest (this is a must see for fans).

Why all the big deal over one of hundreds of sci/fi movies in the canon of cinema? Because, this highly influential film was the first film that put fans at the center of the action and really foretold the era we’re in now, where fans are the most powerful force in entertainment. By all accounts this quirky little homage to a genre beloved by geeks everywhere has an epic origin story that befits its subject matter. It beat the odds, surviving a set fire, the loss of a powerful director, and a studio that didn’t understand what it had to become a pop-culture phenomenon that would “never give up, never surrender.”

As the cult classic nears its 20th anniversary the documentary explores how the science-fiction comedy became an enduring fan favorite, and helped to launch the sci-fi and fantasy-driven movie and TV industry that dominates global entertainment today. Never Surrender is an irresistible, wonderfully heartfelt documentary that will delight longtime Quest fans as well as those new to the phenomenon. Galaxy Quest fans will prove to be the visionaries who first appreciated this exceptional piece of pop culture. And I am proud to say, that I am one of those fans. I love, love, LOVE this film. By Grabthar’s hammer, there's no way I'm missing this special one day event.
