The TCM Classic Film Festival is upon us, so let the show begin. And begin it will later today, but in a whole new way. Because of the inability to meet together in person this year, TCM has arranged our meet up to occur virtually and it's not just the screening of films. In order to make up for the short comings associated with a virtual event, TCM has organized some new online events that will help you connect to the community you know and love.
The 2021 TCM Classic Film Festival is virtual once again this year, with a busy four-day lineup May 6-9 on TCM on HBO Max and through Zoom meetings. You be a part of the action if you've got a "Zoom" account and subscribe to HBOMax. "Club TCM" has five special events happening through Zoom that feature the TCM hosts and visiting festival talent. And HBO Max is also doing their best to add special additions that would otherwise not exist at the regular festival. There's a lot going on, so be sure to schedule your viewing and Zooming just like you would for events if the festival were still being held in Hollywood.
6:00 pm, Wednesday, May 5 you can sit in on zoom for the Meet TCM panel. You probably haven't participated in this early pre-fest program in the past, but this year may. be the perfect time to get to know how the programming works, what's ahead with members of the channel's leadership team. Same time the next day Ben Mankiewicz, Alicia Malone, Jacqueline Stewart, Dave Karger and Eddie Muller are all scheduled to be in attendance for an Opening Night Toast, and be available to answer questions from the virtual gathering.
On Friday at 6:00 pm Eddie Muller and members of the programming team will host "Curating the Classics". This Club TCM attraction offers a "peek behind the curtain" of the inner workings of TCM and the TCM Festival. It's not easy curating a classic film channel, let alone a festival. Tune in and see the magic, arguments, and heartache that comes along with what many of us would consider a dream job.
Come Saturday the highlight on Sight and Sound Makers you can eavesdrop on a chat between Academy Award winning, Ben Burtt and Craig Barron. They'll be discussing sound design and visual effects, and be open for questions about their work. It's a fascinating topic that will broaden your understand of one of the under appreciated aspects of good filmmaking. Then on Sunday, May 9th at 3:00pm, Amy Stiller (daughter of Anne Meara), Carlo Ponti Jr. (son of Sophia Loren) and Victoria Riskin (daughter of Fay Wray) share stories about their famous mothers at "She May be a Movie Star, But She's Just Mom to Me."
You need a Zoom account to join these "Club TCM" events, so you can create a free account by going to https://zoom.us/meeting if you haven't established one already.
